Informative event “Children are children. The road to childcare”

LLI-491 Encouragement of Children Social Inclusion in Jelgava and Siauliai (RiskChildren)

Date: 28. October 2021

Time: 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

There are far too few people in Lithuania who want to become carers. The problem is that childcare is still overgrown with various unfounded myths. Older children between the ages of 9 and 10 are particularly reluctant to take care of them. The prevailing view is that the personality of such children is already formed, they will follow in the footsteps of their parents, they will have behavioral problems and when they enter their home, they are just in trouble. Another stereotype that deters many from the idea of taking care of a child is the belief that you will have to fill a pile of paper and go through a lot of bureaucratic processes.

In order to dispel myths and educate the public about child care issues, a remote information event “Children are children. The road to childcare “. The program of the event includes a conversation with Gabija Siurbyte, the producer of the film “Here Was Sasha”, about topical issues for parents raising children, dreaming about them, and those who are afraid of parental responsibility.

Rugilė Ladauskienė, the manager of the project “Increasing the Welfare and Safety of Children, Improving the Quality of Services for Families, Caregivers (Caregivers) and Developing Accessibility”, will talk about the activities carried out for four years to establish care centers throughout Lithuania.

Jurgita Žaliūkienė, a certified specialist of the State Child Rights Protection Institution of the City Center Social Services Center, will talk about child care in Šiauliai.

The event will take place remotely on the Zoom platform, starting on 28th of October 2021 at 7 p.m. Pre-registration is required by email to: etaplius@gmail.com.
