Interreg Latvia – Lithuania programme is taking off and inviting its stakeholders to the programme’s Launch Event on May 11th, 2016 in Liepāja, Latvia. The date is chosen in May close to European Union day to emphasize the importance of European regional cooperation policy and the impacts which this cooperation can create.

The event will be opened by Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development of the Republic of Latvia Mr Kaspars Gerhards.

The event will facilitate a possibility to meet again with former partners or to look for new partnerships to deal with common challenges beyond borders.

We will present to you the novelties of the new funding period of 2014-2020 and provide you with the information on the first call for proposals. We will talk about the four themes for cooperation in our programme – environment, employment and labour mobility, social inclusion and better public services. We will facilitate opportunities for partner search and networking. For encouragement and inspiration we will visit the project “Jauniešu māja” (“Youth House”) financed by Latvia-Lithuania cross border cooperation programme 2007–2013.

Liepāja is known as the capital city of music of Latvia, so it is only natural that we will be enjoying some music as well.

Liepāja is situated on a lagoon between the Baltic Sea and the Lake of Liepāja. It is a city with sandy beaches where sometimes when the Baltic Sea becomes generous it throws out some amber. Since November 2015 the city has its own permanent amber – “The Great Amber” – a brand new concert hall which has been nominated for awards in international architectural competitions for its inspiring and challenging design. During the event you will have an opportunity to see it with your own eyes. It has been said that this building inspires for excellency. We truly hope this will be the case with the participants of Interreg Latvia – Lithuania Launch event.
