Population of small towns of Latvia – Lithuania cross border area have been on decline over the last years, thereby also a number of children who want to engage in sports. The reason for this is the lack of infrastructure or equipment, or simply sporting activities have not been organized there. The project will create an international network of cycling enthusiasts for children. Three Līvāni-Utena Bicycle Cup tournaments will be organized. These experience-sharing and sporting activities will enable members of the 8 deprived communities in Lithuania and Latvia to become more involved in the processes affecting their daily lives, and to provide more determination and confidence in solving their problems. Also, during the project there will also be purchased 14 equipped bicycles and 1,8 km multi-functional cycling and sports track in Grīva forest near Līvāni created for cycling. Municipalities involved in the project are Līvāni, Jēkabpils, Preiļi and Aknīste in Latvia and Utena, Ignalina and Zarasai in Lithuania, which are very close to each other. In recent years, there has been little cooperation between communities of these towns on healthy lifestyle and sports, and cycling will be a new stimulus that will bring them closer together.

Cyclo-cross “Sēlijas pērle 2020”Gārsene, Latvia
The project improved living conditions of deprived communities in Lithuania and Latvia border districts of Utena, Latgale and Zemgale. About 800 persons – youth and children, cycling activists, general public of the deprived communities from Lithuania and Latvia participated directly or indirectly in the project activities.
During the project these activities were implemented:
- Three community meetings took place in Utena, Ignalina and Panevėžys regions in 2022. During the meetings, the project, its activities, and the desired results were presented – participants of the meetings were introduced to cycling and the goals of forming the cycling community.
- Two youth cycling training camps in the Ignalina region in 2021 and in Zarasai region in 2022 for project participants form Lithuania and Latvia were organized.
3. Several cycling competitions were organized:
- two cycling competition “LUC Cup Criterium” in the Utena region in 2021 and 2022,
- three sporting events in Līvani in 2022: Jaungada Kauss distanču slēpošanā 2022, Grīvas 1.Kauss MTB XCE 2022, Līvānu MTB Maratons 2022
- three sporting events in Aknīste district in 2020, 2021 and 2023: Velokross “Sēlijas Pērle 2020, Velokross “Sēlijas Pērle 2021, Velokross “Sēlijas Pērle 2022
- two events in Krustpils district in 2020 and 2021: Kūku MTB Maratons 2020, Kūku MTB Maratons 2021 / Latvijas atklātais Čempionāts MTB Maratonā
- Bicycle training was organized for youth of Lithuanian community during the entire project in Utena and Ignalina regions.
- Healthy lifestyle and cycling training and programs were prepared for Lithuanian communities (available on dviraciuakademija.lt) .
- Facebook and Instagram accounts of the project were created and all information about the project was presented there, also news about the project were posted on the websites of the project partners (dviraciuakademija.lt and www.livelo-team.lv).
- Cycling and other sport equipment was purchased for Lithuania (Utena, Ignalina) and Latvian (Livani) – 14 bicycles, 14 cyclists’ gear, 2 bicycle gym trainers, winter equipment.
- Multi-functional cycling and sport track was constructed in Grīva forest, near Līvani, which is intended for cycling enthusiasts and implementation of the project sporting activities: cycling, skiing.
