On June 8 and 9 in Liepāja, at the closing event of the MEDWwater project, project implementers and cooperation partners met to discuss what was accomplished in the project, share recommendations and discuss future activities. As part of the project, from February 1, 2021 to June 30, 2023, the pollution of active pharmaceutical substances in sewage and water bodies in Latvia and Lithuania is being studied, which is being carried out jointly by scientists and experts from both countries. In addition to the scientific research part of the project, within the MEDWwater project there was also an informational campaign for citizens “Nature Needs No Pill” to promote the handing over of useless medicines to pharmacies, thus reducing their end up in household waste and sewage.
