On 24 September 2016 Balts’ Unity Day was celebrated in Liepaja, Latvia, gathering people from Lithuania and Latvia to mark unity, cooperation and sense of community between both countries. This was also highlighted in opening speeches of Speaker of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia Ms Ināra Mūrniece and Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania Ms Loreta Graužinienė as well as Deputy mayor of the events’ host city Mr Gunārs Ansiņš.
Representatives of the Interreg V-A Latvia-Lithuania programme 2014-2020 also participated in the event ensuring that opportunities presented by the programme to develop regions of Latvia and Lithuania are widely publicized and known by our target audience.
Balts’ Unity Day celebration included various activities, therefore everyone was able to find something interesting to see or do.
The event was organised by Liepaja City Council, Ministry of Culture of Republic of Latvia, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Latvia, Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania and other involved partners and supported by the programme.
