The Programme today, on 8 June received direct award project application. Application was jointly submitted by the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Latvia (lead partner) and State budgetary institution “Lithuanian Road Administration” under the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania. The project aims to connect regional towns and to facilitate the labour mobility in the cross border region. As the result of the project three cross border road sections total length of which is 46 km will be improved. The road sections are: Bauska – Žeimelis, Jēkabpils – Pandėlys and Grobiņa – Mažeikiai.
The Joint Secretariat of the Programme will organise assesment of eligibility and quality of the application against criterion set-up by the Programme. The final decission on the project approval will be taken by the Monitoring Committee (MC) of the Programme. Members of the MC are representatives from national, regional and local level authorities and stakeholders from Latvia and Lithuania.
Improvement of cross border road infrastructure in the Programme area is defined as the project of strategic relevance and importance for both Member States and the Programme, and it will contribute to the socioeconomic development of the whole Programme area.
