CUCKOO FESTIVAL is a youth festival taking place in naturalist, professor Tadas Ivanauskas‘ homestead Obelynė. The festival takes place during the flowering of apple trees in heritage garden. It is a folklore day, when the youth column marches to Obelynė. Here they listen to Lithuanian folk songs, dance and play. Those who participate for the first time are learning games, dances and old folk rites related to the promotion apple tree fertility and rich harvest. The celebration lasts almost all day, so in the afternoon pupils’ parents, family members join the event.
Implementing project Heritage gardens (funded by Interreg V-A Latvia – Lithuania Programme 2017-2020) during the festival, the attention will be paid to the historical heritage of homestead. Youth will be introduced to the old tree cultivars, the heritage of Obelynė.
