Finally, project “Successful psychosocial and sensory rehabilitation for children and adults suffering from mental and behavioral disorders” (SUPER, Nr. LLI-336) comes to an end! The project’s goal was to improve the accessibility and efficiency of psychosocial and sensory integration rehabilitation services in the Lithuanian-Latvian border region.

Forth project partners – Palanga Health Care Center, Lithuanian Sea Museum, State Social Care Center “Kurzeme” and Seaside Hospital (Liepaja) have worked together for 24 months and have reached significant results. All four project partners successfully created and integrated evidence-based holistic sensory integration method. The project partners have expanded their regular services in a modern way. Palanga Health Care Centre developed the Methodology for the Treatment of Mental and Behavioral Disorders Using Sensory Integration for Children and Adults in the Latvian and Lithuanian languages. The Methodology is intended for professionals in social and medical rehabilitation (occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech therapists, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, etc.) working with persons with mental and behavioral disorders. Also Palanga Health Care Center adopted and applied the new RehaCom cognitive therapy in order to enhance the results of the sensory integration. Seaside Hospital (Liepaja) developed the Neurosensomotor Assessment Instrument in accordance with neuropsychological symptoms for applying of sensory integration. This specific instrument is integral part of the Methodology for the Treatment of Mental and Behavioral Disorders Using Sensory Integration for Children and Adults. The Instrument has been designed to test and understand the neurosensomotor disorders of an individual with a psychiatric diagnosis of mental and behavioural disorders (F00-F99), to plan and perform a neurosensomotor intervention, and to assess the outcome of this targeted intervention. The Methodology and Instrument are available on all project partners’ web sides.

In total project partners equipped 6 sensory integration rooms and 1 outdoor therapy playground. 113 specialists from project partner’s organisations have been trained. They improved their competencies in the basics of neuropsychology and working with new created Methodology and Instrument in the sensory integration rooms. The trained specialists tested 595 patients according to new developed Methodology and Instrument in the new created sensory integration rooms. Newly developed outcomes and purchased equippment alows partners to lounch free of charge essential service for most vulnerable society members – people with psychiatric and behavioural disorders.

Dissemination and sharing of good practice within the program area and beyond its boundaries was and will be ensured through the partners networking.
