LLI-361 Capacity building and links strengthening between municipal administrations and local communities in order to improve living conditions and social life in rural areas of Kuliai (LT) and Kaleti (LV) (Sports activities)

The cooperation of Priekule (LV) and Plunge (LT) municipalities in the project will ensure possibility to enjoy active, healthy lifestyle for different groups of society. The biggest challenge is to change people’s unhealthy lifestyle by creating different interest groups and opportunities for physical activities. In both local communities: Kaleti and Kuliai there are not sufficient opportunities for children, young people, adults and families to spend their free time actively as communities lack the required infrastructure. Both Kaleti and Kuliai communities need to construct recreational/sports grounds and to organize sporting activities there. According to the data of World Health Organization the life expectancy in Lithuania and Latvia is only 65 years. Therefore it is necessary to promote active lifestyle in the local community level. Project will create opportunities for people and will provide them with resources that are necessary to participate in the economical, social and cultural life of the local society. The partners plan to construct different recreation areas: in Kaleti a new active recreation area equipped with a bicucle truck, runway, football field, etc. will be built, but in Kuliai a stadium will be repaired. The project will also promote cultural heritage of both neighbouring nations. Old traditions, sports games and plays will be learned and new annual events will be created. Project will involve a large number of local residents.

The result of the implemented project is improved living conditions in Kuliai (LT) and Kaleti (LV) by renovating stadium near Kuliai gymnasium and creating active recreational area at Kaleti. Now both communities have favourable conditions for matching healthy and athletic lifestyles. Also many activities and events were carried out during the project to encourage citizens to use the new infrastructure and to promote co-operation between both communities. Co-operation between the two communities results in joint activities being planned twice a year, one event per community.
