Open call for applications for Kuldiga Creative Summer School

03 July 2020

Kuldīga Artists’ Residence, Kuldiga District Municipality announces an open-call for applications to Kuldiga Creative Summer School “Service Design in Museums”. During the five days’ workshop, participants will have an opportunity to learn the service design methods as a universal and widely applied instrument of design thinking – a perfect tool for daily work. The Summer School will take place from August 16 to 20 in Kuldiga.

The case study this year is selected in collaboration with association “Creative Museum”. Participants will have an opportunity to use the challenges of Latva’s museums and other heritage institutions as the field for experimenting with service design methods.

Pandemic situation caused by Covid-19 and consequent distancing regulations have changed society’s daily behavior and work culture globally. Changes have affected various service organizations both in the private and public sectors, including – museums and heritage institutions, and thus a series of challenges have been highlighted. Accessibility, which includes the principles of universal design, hospitality, usability, content and interpretation of museums’ exhibitions, is among them, and has been acknowledged as a value already prior the pandemic. Situation caused by Covid-19 has accelerated the necessity for new ways to reach and communicate with customers, innovative digital solutions, and above all – the ability to adapt to volatile situations, and ensure a friendly and safe environment for both, the customers and employees.

During the 5 days of the workshop, participants will learn all the stages of service design method – research, problem definition, development of solution and its prototype, testing of prototype, improvement of solution, and completion of the solution. On the last day of the workshop, August 20, a public lectures’ programme will be offered on topics related to design and service industries.
