11 March 2022
Today three years long development process of the Interreg VI-A Latvia – Lithuania Programme 2021- 2027 has resulted with its submission to the European Commission.
The new Programme aims to continue what was successfully started in the previous 2 programme implementation periods – to boost cooperation between partners in the border regions of Latvia (Kurzeme, Zemgale and Latgale) and Lithuania (Klaipeda, Telšiai, Siauliai, Panevezys and Utena counties) to make our neighbouring regions an attractive place for people for living, studying, working and visiting.
Support for cross-border cooperation activities shall be available for joint projects in four priorities: capacity building and people-to-people cooperation, green, resilient and sustainable development, fair and inclusive society and the economic potential of tourism and heritage.
The total European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) funding available for the implementation of projects is 29 million euro. Beneficiaries – national, regional, local public authorities, public equivalent bodies and NGO’s from both Member States – will be able to receive ERDF co-financing for the implementation of project activities in the amount of 80% of the eligible expenses.
Along with approval procedure of around 100 page Programme document by the EC, the Managing Authority/ Joint Secretariat in cooperation with the Programme Member States will shape project financing arrangements and implementation requirements to be ready to launch the first call for project proposals shortly after approval of the Programme, supposedly at the end of this year.
