25 September 2018
The Programme highlighted many projects and their contribution to the sustainable development of cross-border region of Latvia and Lithuania during Balts’ Unity Day celebration on 22 September in Jelgava. About 600 people visited informative tent of the Programme at Hercogs Jēkabs square. Visitors were greeted with apples and hot tea. There they could watch premiere of Programme’s video and see Programme’s travelling photo exhibition, and take part in the quiz prepared by the Programme to visit 12 Programme’s objects in Jelgava. 15 of participants visited all 12 objects and won prizes. The Programme had also thought about families with children – they could draw together, every child was given a balloon, or other small souvenir.Already traditional Balts’ Unity Day is an annual event celebrated to commemorate the battle of the Sun of 22 September 1236 when Lithuanians and Semigallians defeated Livonian Brothers of the Sword. Last year it was hosted by Palanga municipality, where the Programme organized a cycling trip with more than 100 participants. Next year it will be hosted in Biržai.
