In order to achieve the main objective of the project “Improvement of technical basis and physical capacity of responsible professionals in operational services in the border region of Latvia and Lithuania (All for Safety)” – to increase the efficiency of operational services and improve physical capacity of responsible professionals in operational services – Jelgava City Council as project Lead Partner continues to implement planed project activities.
In order to improve physical capacity of responsible professionals in operational services during the third period (01.07.2019.-31.12.2019.) of project implementation the sports stadium of Jelgava Technology Secondary School was rebuilt and improved as a multifunctional physical training base, where the operational service specialists will be able to improve their physical condition and develop emergency response skills required.
The stadium will be equipped with professional training tower as well, providing possibilities to train skills that are needed in fire fighters work in particular – suppressing of fire, a speed of human rescue, handling heavy objects and others. Taking into account developed infrastructure, the stadium also will host various professional firefighting competitions and professional trainings.
While in order to raise awareness and popularize the fire and emergency service profession among schoolchildren and young people, international camp for children “Learn to be strong” was organized in Jelgava from August 12 – 16, 2019. During the camp children learned more about required knowledge, skills and competences which are essential in this profession.
In addition to educational activities, different physical trainings and outdoor activities were organized every day. The camp was also a great opportunity for the children to learn how to collaborate in international teams – children actively worked in groups. A similar camp, attended by Latvian and Lithuanian children, will be organized in March 2020 in Siauliai as well.
In order to increase cross-border cooperation between Latvian and Lithuanian rescue services to decrease consequences caused by emergency situations and to improve the base of professional knowledge and skills of responsible professionals in operational services, it is planned to organize more different professional trainings, cross-border competitions and team building events within the project.
Project objective: to improve efficiency of operational rescue services in Zemgale and Siauliai border regions trough improvement of infrastructure and strengthening capacity of its specialists to ensure cross border cooperation in emergency situations.
Total budget of the project: 564 290, 38 EUR, where EUR 479 646.82 (85%) is European Regional Fund funding and EUR 84 643, 56 EUR (15%) is national co-financing source (the state budget grant and project partners contribution).
Project implementation period: July 30, 2018 until June 30, 2020.
