Project LLI-523 “Capacity Building of Saldus and Mažeikiai Municipalities in the Field of Civil Security” (MuniGuard) was implemented within the framework of the Interreg VA Latvia-Lithuania Cross-Border Cooperation Program 2014-2020. With the support of this project, three partners – Saldus Municipality, Saldus Technical School and Mažeikiai District Municipality Administration was intended to provide citizens with higher civil safety by improving public services, performing preventive actions and shortening the response time to fires and other emergencies in Saldus and Mazeikiai municipalities.

The implementation of the project LLI-523 “Capacity building of Saldus and Mažeikiai municipalities in the field of civil security” is successfully finished. In two years (07/2020 – 09/2022) capacity of involved public authorities and institutions was strengthened by cross-border cooperation and common solutions for civil security improvement of citizens in Saldus and Mazeikiai municipalities. Output is achieved as all three partner organizations closely worked on the project implementation tasks, using holistic approach. Project main achieved results are:

• 2 water intake sites constructed in Saldus region; 4 sites reconstructed in Mažeikiai district;
• Various equipment items purchased by all three partners for firefighting and saving operations and new firefighters-safeguards trainings as well;
• Educational events for school children 11-15 years old organized, participated 226 children from 12 schools;
• Children-youth camp “Young Safeguards” organized in Ezere on August 9-11, 20 participants from both partner countries participated;
• Trainings for municipality and public sector employees organized; 76 participants altogether from most of parishes of Saldus and Mažeikiai region;
• 2 public events organized for the experience exchange and common knowledge increasing, and awareness rising about civil protection in the cross-border region;
• Various communication activities carried out, including 3 articles in the regional press, website subsections in all 3 partner websites, publications in social media and websites, project roll-up displayed during events etc.
