Project “Capacity building of Saldus and Mažeikiai municipalities in the field of civil security” (MuniGuard) was approved in the 3^rd call of the Interreg V-A Latvia-Lithuania Programme 2014-2020 under the Priority IV “Improved quality of living through efficient public services and administration” Specific Objective 4.1 “To improve efficiency of public services by strengthening capacity and cooperation between institutions”. With the support of this project three partners – Saldus Municipality, Saldus Technical school and Mažeikiai District Municipality Administration intend to ensure higher civil security for citizens through improved public services, preventive actions and reduced time of reaction to fire accidents and other emergencies in Saldus and Mažeikiai municipal territories.

During the 1st implementation period project partners have started working to put their intentions into practice. The first 2 of planned 6 water intakes were built and put into operation in Saldus region parishes Pampāļi and Zaņa. This measure will help to reduce time of reaction to fire accidents in the border region. Thus, living conditions for the inhabitants of the border region now is safer in terms of civil security. Other 4 water intakes on the Lithuanian side of the border will be reconstructed by Mažeikiai partner in the Spring of 2021.

New equipment for public safety measures – panic alarm system and thermal video surveillance camera for Saldus Lake public beach has been purchased and installed by Saldus Municipality in December 2020. Other two partners have been working on the preparation of technical specifications and public procurement documentation for the purchasing of the rest of planned safety equipment, i.e., 4 sets of dry suits and protective underwear for lifeguards of Saldus Technical school, radio and communication equipment set, mobile water pump and hydraulic equipment set for rescue operations in Mazeikiai municipality.

 

Project partners (Saldus Municipality, Saldus Technical school and Mažeikiai District Municipality Administration) were awarded financing of the European Union that was allocated by the Interreg V-A Latvia-Lithuania Programme 2014-2020 to the project LLI-523 “Capacity building of Saldus and Mažeikiai municipalities in the field of civil security” (MuniGuard).

Total project budget is 214 062,11 EUR. Co-funding of European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) is 181 952,78 EUR.
