Project essential part is cleaning of ponds, removal of excess water plants and sludge in the territory of Daugavpils and Aniksciai urban wetlands.

In November 2021, the project finalised the Daugavpils and Anyksciai Urban Wetland Management Plan, which will provide for the management of two urban wetlands – the Esplanade Wetland in Daugavpils and the Green Pond in Anyksciai. The management plan involved nature and environmental experts from Latvia and Lithuania, the project working group, as well as specialists from the municipalities of Daugavpils and Anyksciai, whose daily work is related to urban spatial planning.

Based on the recommendations of the nature experts involved in the project implementation, the implementation of the management measures foreseen in the Daugavpils and Anyksciai Urban Wetlands Management Plan has already started. Thinning of shrub vegetation in the Esplanade wetland area is already underway, and the first ponds in the planned pond system have been created, which will eventually separate the central part of the wetland from the rest of the wetland area.

The works on restoration of green infrastructure and improvement of ecosystems services of Aniksciai Green pond area have been also already started.

Total ERDF project funding 319 719,36 EUR.
