How to successfully implement measures for the inclusion of seniors, plan activities that engage them and offer socialization opportunities, and how to use digital tools is discussed in the cross-border social inclusion event for seniors, which took place on 26 November.
The event was attended by 77 participants – 65 seniors, four social workers, one mentor and seven project partners from Latvian municipalities – Jelgava, Auce and Vecumnieki, as well as Lithuanian municipalities – Rokiškis, Plunge and Biržai.
Using a number of communication tools, such as the ability to chat on the online Zoom platform and watch videos on youtube.com, as well as face-to-face group discussions with a mentor and a technical support, seniors were able to experience the advantages and disadvantages of communication in a digital environment.
Seniors were also able to discuss them, define common and different approaches to inclusive activities for older people in the two regions, as well as define their needs, desires and ideas for future development of senior support.
The feedback from seniors will allow social project managers and social workers to better understand the wishes and needs of seniors to be included in their wellness programs. It is also important to provide opportunities to get to know the digital environment, as this cross-border meeting was further evidence of seniors’ interest in technology and the opportunities it offers.
