During the last two months, Latgale Planning Region has organized 48 publicly available sports events in 13 municipalities, where equipment for sports infrastructure has been improved or created in the framework of the project. These events gathered more than 900 children and young people from the region. The overall objectives of these events were the social inclusion of at-risk children and youth through sports activities and the motivation to lead a healthy lifestyle.
Well-known athletes, sports trainers, and healthy lifestyle influencers and promoters visited schools in Latgale region. These nationally and regionally known role models included street gymnast and promoter of healthy lifestyle Kaspars Zlidnis, professional athlete and fitness trainer Anita Pužule, moto freestyle rider Mārtiņš Aleksandrovičs, fitness trainer and healthy lifestyle influencer Kristaps Vilde, speedway champion Andžejs Ļebedevs, hokey trainer Atvars Tribuncovs, freestyle wrestler Anastasija Grigorjeva, handball trainer Andrejs Narnickis and healthy lifestyle promoter and Chairman of Viļaka municipality Sergejs Maksimovs.
In the training sessions with children and youth, they not only demonstrated and explained their workout techniques, but also spoke about their achievements and way to success, inspired and motivated children and youth to proceed toward the realization of dreams and goals. Training sessions were a positive experience for all participants, moreover, each story told and a message given by role models hopefully will inspire and serve as motivation to children and youth involved in these activities.
