22 November 2019
The second round-table discussion planned within the framework of “Clean Brownfields” project took place in Kaunas.
A roundtable discussion „Brownfields management in Kaunas Region: problems, needs, opportunities“ took place on November 21, 2019 in Kaunas. This discussion was organised in the frame of Interreg V-A Latvia-Lithuania Programme 2014-2020 project „Living in clean environment – for better future!” (LLI-303 Clean Brownfields).
20 representatives from 7 Kaunas Region municipalities participated on this event. They represented different departments – architecture and urban planning, environmental protection, strategic planning and investments. During the event participants got acquainted with project goals and planned activities, had a possibility to hear a presentation by Kestutis Zaleckis, Professor of the Faculty of Civil engineering and architecture of Kaunas University of Technology about the possibility to use area development simulation in the decision making process. This is especially important while municipalities have to make a strategic decision concerning the future use of former brownfields. Participants also discussed about the main problems that municipalities face while managing brownfields, main needs and possible solutions.
The discussion was moderated by Elena Taločkaitė, project manager from Kaunas Regional Development Agency (project partner).
