Vilnius Academy of Arts, Nida Art Colony
Description: Vilnius Academy of Arts (VAA) is the largest art university in the Baltic States. Today Academy has over 1,800 students in four cities – Vilnius, Kaunas, Telšiai and Klaipėda. Each faculty has its own unique study programmes. Vilnius and Kaunas faculties have a wide collection of programs in visual and applied arts (Painting, Sculpture, Printmaking, Photography and Media, Animation, Textile, Ceramics, Glass Art, Stage Design, Fresco-mosaic, Stained Glass, Restoration), design (Graphic, Product, Fashion, Interior), architecture, culture management and art history. Telšiai Faculty is based on a solid craft competences (Metal Art and Jewellery, Furniture Design and Restoration) and the recently established Klaipėda Faculty offers programs related to the most current art tendencies (Contemporary Art and Media, Graphic Art and Interior Design). Nida Art Colony (NAC) is a branch of Vilnius Academy of Arts. NAC operates all year round as intense courses, workshops, seminars, conference centre and hosts up to 50 events per year with more whan 1000 participants related to art education, research, creative industries workshops and etc. It is an important part of the Academy which attracts international projects and gives students opportunities to participate in them. NAC operates since 2011 and since then it is an active centre for education, creative industries workshops, research, artistic residencies. In the project NAC becomes a knowledge centre with university level competences and experiences. It can host events and become a space for the project participants to deepen their knowledge in creative and cultural industries (CCIs), attract international professionals to participate and share their exeriences in the project with the short term residencies.
Idea: With this project NAC will build the new relations with the CCIs working in the western part of Lithuania and in Latvia, and improve its role as a regional player for CCIs. It is also a good possibility to expand our expertise in creative industries and share our expertise in art & creativity for improvement of area's labor market skills, un thus - foster development of area in general.
