On May 7 there will be organized exploratory hike to the most popular karst sinkholes in Skaistkalne parish accompanied by a knowledgeable guide. It is opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of how karst sinkholes form in Skaistkalne parish and to learn more about the unique geological processes in the Natura 2000 area.
The hiking route will be around 8 kilometres. During the hike, various cognitive games and tasks will be played – participants will have the opportunity to put together puzzles with different types of karst sinkholes, one of the activities will be a gypsum workshop to get to know the physical properties of gypsum better.
It is recommended to wear comfortable shoes and have a lunch box for a picnic at the rest area near Mežezers.
Free transport from Bauska and Vecumnieki to Skaistkalne and back will be provided. Departure from Bauska (Rimi Square, Pionieru Street) at 10.00, stop in Vecumnieki (shopping center “Pīlādzis”) at 10.40. The duration of the event is planned until approximately 15.00.
