Time: 12:00 am - 2:00 am

Liepāja, Latvia

Liepāja Central scientific library and Children library “Vecliepājas Rūķis” invite the whole family to an interactive event – “Family Games Day in the Library” on the 24 March 2018 from 12 to 14 o`clock. About the magic and fantastic power of games will introduce Pēteris Riekstiņš – the head of board games group of Liepāja Children and Youth Centre. There will be a possibility together with children, their parents and grandparents and with Pēteris Riekstiņš to find out various gaming skills and abilities of playing board games.

Board games become very popular in families promoting mutual communication, intergenerational cooperation, discipline, the ability to win and also to lose. Scientists have discovered that board games help children to achieve the main social skills in life. Board games is a wonderful tool for children and adults that helps them to develop strategic and abstract thinking, teach cooperation with other people, teach fast to accept decisions, enrich the imagination and give positive emotions.

Games specialist Pēteris Riekstiņš says that games need to play for real, not just on the computer screen as it is now the most common that tend to do children and adults.

On the event children and adults will find out together how to play games that were purchased from project funds – OPPO, ICE COOL, i KNOW, PANDEMIC, CARCASSONNE, MYSTERIUM, MISTAKOS, CODENAMES, MALACCA, also games from library fund.

The main benefit from board games event “Family Games Day in the Library” will be, undeniably, to learn how to engage the dialogue with other game players.

The Activity is organized within the framework of the Latvian – Lithuanian cross-border project LLL-110 „Inovatīvu risinājumu attīstība bibliotēkās dažādu paaudžu apmeklētājiem pierobežas reģionā” / “Development of Innovative Library Solutions for different generations in the border region”.
