A joint campaigns in the coastal waters of Latvia will be dedicated for salinity, radiometric measurements and water sample collection using specific device (Manta net) dedicated for microplastic sampling. In the laboratory the concentration of chl-a, cyanobacteria, CDOM as a proxy of salinity and plastic litter will be assessed. All campaigns will be organised synchronously with satellite Sentinel-2, Sentinel-3 or Landsat-8 overpasses. Plastic litter amount will be correlated with chl-a, cyanobacteria abundance in order to predict and map the potential amount via satellite remote sensing. The approach of plastic litter evaluation from satellite images will be developed and guidelines will be prepared. Read more

Leading partner Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Kaunas Hospital organized joint and separate general and special skills trainings of health care specialists, purchased and installed rehabilitation equipment for children and adults, prepared the handbook for for both partners’ specialists was prepared in order to share expert knowledge and increase qualification of these specialists for provision of efficient public (rehabilitation) services and organized international on-line conference with 90 participants from both partners’ and other medical institutions for sharing knowledge and increasing the qualification of specialists. Exposition provides for the main target groups such as local inhabitants and tourist, children, students, families, interested in history, heritage and crafts. a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the cultural and historical heritage, to popularize history of local craftsmen and exhibit ancient skills and works. During the implementation of the project in Jēkabpils Primary School and in its immediate vicinity a total of 29 video surveillance cameras will be installed. As well as additional security, the school area will be separated from the public outdoor space by installing a fence. Read more

Within the project, in order to improve safety, video surveillance systems will be installed at three Pakruohas county schools - Pakruohas District Zeimelis Gymnasium, Pakruoshi District Lygum High School, and Pakruohas “Žemaite” High School. In addition, the safety of Pakruoshi District Lygumai High School and Pakruohas “Žemynos” elementary schools will be improved, separating school areas from the public city area, with a fence of about 1,200 m long. According to the initiated Project, four social inclusion measures for mentally ill persons and their family members were developed; two objects of infrastructure were created (ceramic studio and wood work/wicker weaving workshop). The simple repair of premises was carried out; the ceramic studio and wood work/wicker weaving workshop were installed. The following works have been done: repaired water supply, sewage, heating, ventilation systems, and installed the sanitary facilities. The electrical, fire, safety and security systems were installed from the hospital private funds. All repaired premises meet the hygiene, fire safety and the specific safety requirements for mentally ill patients. By means of methodological meetings and experience sharing seminars 21 hospital's employees increased their qualifications and acquired new skills for the provision of the occupational therapy (restore of lost skills), social rehabilitation, psychological counselling services, and the involvement of patients' family members and society into a process of the social integration of mentally ill people. Ventspils Tehnikums (Ventspils Technical School) is an educational institution with a long history and ancient traditions. The school started its business in 1906 as a trade school, but in 1920 it became the Ventspils State School of Business and in the following years it has been an important center for preparing new specialists. Since 2012 the name of the school is Ventspils Tehnikums. The offer of school vocational education is extensive and covers several sectors: metalworking and mechanical engineering, road transport, energy, electronics, engineering communications, computer systems, catering services, hospitality, hotel business and accounting. The school implements vocational and vocational secondary education programs as well as adult continuing education and professional development programs. During the last 10 years the number of students of Ventspils Technical College has grown from 423 in 2007 to 830 in 2017. Mostly young people from Kurzeme region study at school. Saldus Municipality is local government, which administer life in Saldus County according to “The Law on Local Governments” and municipality regulations. Saldus County located at the border with Lithuania and consists of Saldus city and 15 parishes. One of the main functions of Saldus Municipality is to provide social services for local inhabitants, which is ensured by the municipality’s agency “Sociālais dienests” (Social Service Office) in accordance with “Law On Social Services and Social Assistance”. Agency has 17 social workers, who organises social services including individual social case management and other measures to local inhabitants on everyday bases. PP has the necessary resources - experienced specialists, technical support and finances for implementing this project. Social Service Office employees will be involved in project implementation like in improving social services, informing society and organising events. Saldus municipality was one of partners in the project “My response”. Project „I See” is continuation of it. PP in cooperation with others will organise awareness raising events and provide social service improvements (create targeted events to persons with visual impairments and disabilities) in Saldus county. To assure improvements PP will make municipality web page adaptions and to buy and place IT equipment (adapted computer including software, keyboard, printer) to provide better accessibility to information and IT usage. In June, 2019, in Liepaja there was taken place for two-days teaching/ training on safe police bike patroling and use of individual body cameras for 30 police staff members from Lithuania and Latvia, which was provided by VAZ Global Netherlands (Community Policing Experts). There were indood and outdoor training on bicycles as well. Since april thi syear we have purchased six new bikes and bike patroling is on daily basis. Also purchased 30 car videoregistrators help on prevention – to gain evidences and reduce corruption risks for safety issues, as well as observe surrounded area. There are placed A1 size posters in three languages (LV, LT, ENG) and mini pocket fliers to take away for visitors in common places (Tourist info centers/ municipality, police, beach side). The ensemble of Eleja Manor buildings was designed in the beginning of 19th century in the style of classicism after the order of Duke Christoph Johann Friedrich von Medem. Eleja Manor park was started to develop in the 18th century as romantic English park with rotunda and pond system. Alongside with the park also Tea house was built there. From the aspect of biological diversity Eleja Manor park is an environmental jem, worthy of protection on both Latvian and European scale. With the support of LAT LIT programmes project LLI-313 “Four Seasons Exciting Journey in Manor Parks” / 4SeasonsParks there are several improvements done in the park: small architectural forms – bridge, 2 sculptures (Conversation and For love) and 2 passages – are developed and installed, greenery planted, lawn renewed and gravel pathways constructed. Also benches, trash bins and information stands are installed for the convenience of park visitors. Read more

Koknese Manor Park was created in 1900, by the River Pērse estuary in Daugava. There are several delightful wooden sculptures in the park, as well as a 11 metre wooden sculpture named “For eternity”, created by sculptor G. Burvis, and a tea house-gazebo. History buffs will appreciate the Celtic crosses and cast-iron cannons from Swedish times, as well as burial grounds of the people who died during WWII. The park is home to the Koknese medieval castle ruins, a renovated fountain ‘Faun’s head’, which in the 1930s used to be not far from the legendary flooded Pērse waterfall, which is now marked by J. Zihmanis stone sculpture “Pērse girl” on the shore. With the support of Interreg V-A Latvia – Lithuania Programmes 2014-2020 project LLI-313 “Four Seasons Exciting Journey in Manor Parks” / “4SeasonsParks” there are several improvements done in the park: Pērse waterfall imitation with greenery, 12 direction signs, 3 park schemes, 7 information stands and 1 wooden swings with small fence around it to improve the territory of the park and make it more accessible, safe and interesting for visitors. Rokiškis Manor Park is a favourite visiting place of Rokiškis’ guests and it’s local people. It was established in 1797 by the owner of the manor Count Ignotas Tyzenhauzas. During more than 200 years, there were times when it was cherished however for times it was also left unattended. Since 1990, the park is maintained by Rokiškis Regional Museum. Many works have been done but still many remains. In 2018, for the comfort of the visitors the park was equipped with 10 new benches and trash bins. For having some fun in the park, the early 20th century style swing was installed which was recreated based on the old photographs of Rokiškis manor. These works were done by implementing the project LLI-313 “Four Seasons Exciting Journey in Manor Parks” / 4SeasonsParks funded by Interreg V-A Latvia–Lithuania Programme 2014–2020. Read more

Pakruojis Manor is the largest and most famous place of Pakruojis. Pakruojis manor is mentioned for the first time in written sources in 1531. Pakruojis Manor is located in Pakruojis village, occupying 48.2 hectares with 34 monumental buildings. It is one of the largest and nicest manors in Lithuania, unique in urban planning, a unique style of buildings, and an impressive landscape. The first known owners of the manor were noblemen Zabiela, followed by counts Munsters. Currently Pakruojis manor homestead is mostly visited as a museum under open sky. Visitors can admire manor interior, examine buildings, and listen to the concerts given there. Territory of former Oil products station, Naivių village, Kupiskis district. Total size of territory is 313 m2. This territory is wholly abandoned and contaminated. During the time of studies on the liquid oil products in the groundwater to the surface were not found, but in the area the fresh oil pollution has been detected. Such local products and oil contaminated above the surface of the ground in the soil presents a potential risk for local households and human health. This territory is wholly abandoned and contaminated and according to Ludzas spatial planning documents, this area has been included among the brownfields. From the mid-nineties in this territory was operating Kazitiškis boiler plant and untill 1995/96 heating season plant was fueled by fuel oil. In the studies of soil contamination was determined concentration of oil products exceeding the limits of 1,39 to 5,08 times, that also presents a potential risk for local households and human health. The Open-Air Museum of Lithuania is one of the largest ethnographic open-air museums in Europe that stretches across the area of 195 ha. The museum was established on the picturesque shores of Kaunas Lagoon in Rumšiškės in 1966. The exhibitions at the museum are intended to introduce the ethnographic regions of Lithuania, i.e. Dzūkija (Dainava), Aukštaitija (Highlands), Suvalkija (Sudovia), Žemaitija (Samogitia) and Lithuania Minor, as they looked at the end of the 18th century and the first half of the 20th century. Works were launched in June 2018 and completed in 2020. Construction took more time as initially planned due archeological findings - ~ 115 m long section of the ancient road or street made of coble stone in Žeimelis near the church. After archeological investigation it’s decided that coble stone section will be preserved as archeological monument giving an additional value for the town and region in sense of tourism. Read more

During LLI-310 LAMPREY project international pan-Baltic experts workshop “Lamprey population status and assessment practices in the Baltic Sea region” was organized on 11-12 May 2019 in Klaipėda University Marine Research Institute to share, learn and discuss best stock assessment and management practices for Baltic lamprey stocks. The two-day workshop was attended by experts from Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Sweden, Poland, and Canada, also by the stakeholders from Latvia and Lithuania. Participants presented national experiences on lamprey stock management and conservation, discussed different topics on lamprey genetics, ecology, stock status and exploitation in the Baltic and sustainable management possibilities. It was estimated that fishing mortality of migrating lamprey or share of population taken by fishery reaches up to 40 percent in Latvian rivers, and 33 % in Šventoji River mouth as was estimated during pilot tagging study in Lithuania. Also it will be widely used for the same activities directed to vulnerable groups even after project ending. Children from vulnerable groups (not only Christian) like socially excluded or deprived families from Latvia and Lithuania took part in specialized camps with leisure, sports, art activities, food preparation workshops, motivational and educational lectures and speeches. Kretinga Day activities centre operates since 2001 and is local public authority organisation, funded by Kretinga district municipality. Day centre works with young adults having learning difficulties, mental, physical and complex disabilities. Centre provides 2 society based social services - day activities for 60 clients and temporary (short-term) accommodation for 6 persons. Organisation carries out a variety of activities and events for disabled persons in Kretinga municipality and guests from other countries. Since 2005 Day centre collects and disseminates information, but from 2009 is social work approved methodological centre. 4 training programmes for social workers and their assistants developed and certified lecturer lead national and international trainings. Day centre shares the work experience at national and international level. Day centre cooperates with local state, municipal and non-governmental organisations, schools and other parts. Kretinga centre as PP will cooperate with other project partners and participate in the joint meetings, share its good practice experience and expertise providing social services for disabled people, be responsible for organisation of trainings for Kretinga district specialists. To improve accessibility and efficiency of social services, premises of centre and equipment will be adapted to the visually impaired persons. To improve diversification of social services for persons with visual impairments PP will provide new forms of support with aim to develop skills of persons with visual impairments and disability (for example, leaflets publishing and dissemination, classes of ceramics and/music, etc.). Family members of target group will be involved, if interested. Kretinga PP will provide legal and psychological counselling to help target group and their relatives better understand their rights and possibilities. To inform society in PP web page information will be provided and articles in mass media planed. Read more

Liepaja City Council is representative of local government, which administer life in Liepaja city according to “The Law on Local Governments” and municipality regulations. Liepaja city located near to the border of Lithuania. One of the main functions of Liepaja city is to provide social services for local inhabitants, which is ensured by the Liepaja City Council Social Service Office in accordance with “Law On Social Services and Social Assistance”. The office has 78 social work specialists, who organises social services including individual social case management and other measures to local inhabitants on everyday bases. PP has the necessary resources - experienced specialists, technical support and finances for implementing this project. Social Service Office employees will be involved in project activities and implementation like improving social services, informing society and organising events. Liepaja was one of partners in the project “My response”. Project „I See” is continuation of it. PP in cooperation with others will organise awareness raising events and provide social service improvements (create targeted events to persons with visual impairments and disabilities) in Liepaja city. To assure improvements PP will buy and place tactile information signs in social and public buildings. To promote visually impaired people participation in outdoor activities like city environment and Baltic sea beach usage and improve accessibility in wider range - outdoor tactile maps and wooden paths adapted for persons with visual impairments will be bought and placed. Venta river valley is distinguished by a variety of biotopes – hillside forests, sandstone and dolomite cliffs, meadows, protected plants and animals and diverse landscapes. It is one of the protected territories of Natura 2000 network. There are popular tourism objects in this part of Kurzeme – the Venta dam, the stone bridge of Kuldīga, the Veckuldīga castle hill etc. Venta river stands out for its characteristic floodplain meadows and shore terraces. With the support of the LATLIT programme, under the UniGreen project, a walking trail with two viewing sites on the right bank of the river at Pārventas park has been constructed. Read more

On the coast of Venta river there is the Skrunda castle mound, which is a popular resting area among locals and tourists. There is a stage and it is surrounded by a park where one can enjoy the wooden chairs of Curonian kings designed by the sculptor Ģ. Burvis. There is a number of legends on the Skrunda castle mound – on underground passages, the white woman that comes out once in 100 years. With the support of the LATLIT programme, under the UniGreen project, a 522m long walking trail has been constructed along the Skrunda castle mound and the river. The trail ends at the highest point in Skrunda, which allows to enjoy the beautoful nature sights, watch the birds and the calm flow of the Venta river. There is a number of benches along the trail and several stops created to view the scenic Kurzeme landscape. The trail also serves as the starting and closing point for boating. The trail is adapted dor people in wheelchairs and families with children. Read more

Roja beach is a popular holiday destination for tourists and popular resting place among locals. Various events and festivals are being organised at Roja beach. For beach to be more accessible for visitors, including people with disabilities, with the support of the LATLIT programme, under the UniGreen project, the existing wooden walking trail has been renovated and an extension has been constructed with a total length of 980m. The trail also involves a tactile information stand with a map and data on the available infrastructure and biodiversity in Roja public beach area, also in Braille script. Read more

Durbe lake is an important area for bird migration. Out of the 28 protected bird species in Latvia, 14 can be spotted in the surroundings of Durbe lake. The site is part of the Natura 2000 network of protected areas. In order to use the potential os the site, with the support of the LATLIT programme, under the UniGreen project, a watching tower has been built, together with a parking and resting area. Sātiņi ponds is a nature reserve, which is part of the Natura 2000 network of protected areas, with an artificially constructed pond complex located 8km from Saldus. They cover a territory of 3780 ha with 30 ponds. Sātiņi ponds are distinguished with a large number of birds during nesting and migration periods. The nearby forests provide shelter to many proceted bird and bat species. In order to use the potential of the site, with the support of the LATLIT programme, under the UniGreen project, a watching tower has been constructed together with an information stand on bird species present in the territory as well as services available for tourists. Usma is one of the five largest lakes in Latvia. The lake and its surroundings is a popular resting place, especially among anglers and sailors. Plateliai is the largest lake in Žemaitija, the central object of Žemaitija National park, which is included in the Natura 2000 network of protected areas. With the support of the LATLIT programme, under the UniGreen project, a renovation of the existing viewing platform, built 30 years ago, has been carried out and the platform is adapted for people with disabilities. The viewing platform allows to enjoy the magnificent landscape of Plateliai lake and opens the view to its two unique islands, the natural heritage sites – Pilies and Veršiu islands. In addition, 8 information stands have been placed with data on Žemaitija National Park, Plateliai lake and its islands. Jaurykla is a streamlet, passing through the southern part of Kretinga. In order to facilitate the access to the streamlet and its surroundings, with the support of the LATLIT programme, under the UniGreen project, extensive territory improvement works are being carried out with the aim to create a Jaurykla park in the vicinity of the river. In the park, it is planned to construct an amphitheater, a wellness trail with recreational equipment, a recreation area, an education nature trail, a landscape viewing platform, a reflexotherapy trail, a playground for children, a special trail come down for people with disabilities, six small bridges and an adventure park. The Kirkilai lake complex is a unique landscape element, consisting of karstic sinkholes filled with water. It is the only nature object of such type in the Baltics. Karstic lakes are located in the Kirkilai nature reserve, which is included in the Natura 2000 network of protected areas, and are particularly attractive due to their curving shores, picturesque peninsulas, horns and islands. With the support of the LATLIT programme, under the UniGreen project, the access to Kirkilai karstic lakes has been improved, installing three pontoon bridges, a cognitive trail and creativity stands. The improvement works at the territory now allows people with disabilities to access this nature object (with an assistant). The aim of the first interactive Baltic culture promotion centre in Lithuania and Latvia “Balts’ Road” is to promote traveling and getting to know tangible and intangible cultural and natural heritage of the Balts. Here, the history, culture and lifestyle of the Balts, presented using modern technologies, copies of exhibits, educational activities, create opportunities to develop awareness of the Baltic heritage and its preservation. You will find four interactive games in the spaces of “Balts’ Road”. The game “Balts’ profession”, based on biometric human data, allows to see oneself as a spinner, weaver, soldier, fisherman, etc. and to download such portrait by scanning the QR code. Another educational game “Get to know Balts’ items” introduces to household items used in the Baltic tribes. While various objects are falling, it is necessary to identify which of them belong to the Baltic period and topics and which do not. Players of the game collect points. The technology of the game “Travel to the everyday life of Balts” allows to move a person standing in front of the camera to a unique augmented reality environment chosen by the person himself/herself. The tourist can save the composed view with his/her image as a photo and download it after scanning the QR code. Most of the space is left for the game-installation “Balts’ life”: on a specially prepared, touch-sensitive plane, projectors and sensors present the uniqueness of individual Balts’ tribes as well as general aspects of the Baltic way of life. It is a space filled with sounds and lights, which allows to get to know the culture and life of ancient Balts even better. The centre is intended to promote visitors’ active participation, interest, cognition, and assimilation of information through senses: hearing, smelling, seeing, and touching. All information is provided in Lithuanian, Latvian and English. The centre was designed following the universal design principles: there is an audio guide (on the topics of pottery, metalwork, weaving,contractuals), the names of the stands are given in Braille, there is a ramp for persons with reduced mobility or families with prams as well as a lift to get to the sanitary facilities. Functionalities of citizen cards of Jelgava and Siauliai are improved by three additional services, which will give citizens opportunity to see information about actual and historical discounts and benefits that are granted to person or family by municipality, e.g., transport, catering services and to receive information about events in Jelgava and Siauliai. Mobile application is developed to have better access to the information, e.g., personal profile, targeted announcements (traffic problems or construction works close to home) and city news, as well as for use other Smart City options, e.g., QR code that gives discounts for family with children. Municipal portal created within the project and it provides Jelgava residents and organizations with an integrated platform for receiving specific e-services provided by Jelgava municipality online and will allow creating a unified identity profile for communication with the municipality.
